"A Day in the Future" was a one-day leadership conference that was designed, produced and narrated by Leland Russell in 1990. It featured an innovative blend of learning methods, including live presenters, experts on video, original music, on-stage drama, MTV-type music-image videos and panoramic slides.
The organizing framework for "A Day in the Future" was the “GEO Paradigm,” which explained the three fundamental Change Forces shaping our future: Globalization, Empowerment and Orchestration (GEO).
Change Force One, Globalization, is moving us from parochialism to transnationalism. We are shifting away from narrow, local thinking toward broad global thinking.
Change Force Two, Empowerment, is moving us from hierarchies to participative organizations. We are shedding management styles that encumber workers in favor of open, supportive styles that empower them.
Change Force Three, Orchestration, is moving us from mechanization to flexibility. We have moved beyond single purpose machines into a world of multi-dimensional technology that allows us to orchestrate information and ideas.
Each of these Change Forces is part of a dynamic historical continuum that continues to accelerate.
One of the videos produced for the conference, " Tearing Down The Walls", was subsequently utilized as a leadership learning tool by over 1000 organizations around the world in business, healthcare, education and government.
